One of your acquaintances told you about counter-current swimming in a pool, and you are excited about its promises: the possibility of swimming, swimming in a wide and constant flow, the prospect of improving your athletic performance… However, your pool is already installed, and you can no longer integrate it into your construction plans. Don’t worry, there is a solution: counter-current swimming with an outboard turbine.

Read our guide to learn more about counter-current swimming.

A person with long hair and sunglasses relaxes in a pool while floating on a striped inflatable tube. Another person is visible in the background, partially submerged in the water. The pool area, equipped with a counter-current swimming turbine, features a stone wall and potted plants.

The outboard counter-current swimming: The principle

If it is possible to plan the installation of a counter-current swimming system from the design phase of the pool, know that nothing prevents you from benefiting from this equipment when your basin is already filled with water. And this, even if it is several years old, and regardless (or almost) of the materials that make it up.

How? Thanks to an outboard counter-current swimming system with turbine. This comes in the form of a monoblock, which is fixed near a low-voltage power supply at the edge of the basin. It will allow you to enjoy all the integrated features of a counter-current swimming system, without any limitations, and all the associated advantages:

  • the ability to swim as long as you want, without having to turn around;
  • a training center for swimming and triathlon at home, with adjustable power;
  • a perfect basin to teach your children how to swim;
  • an original pool, perfect for relaxing moments with your friends and family;
  • a system that can also offer you invigorating massages;
  • a simple operation, from a remote control or, in the case of Swimeo equipment, an app available on your smartphone…

The operation of the outboard counter-current swimming system

How does a counter-current swimming system with an outboard turbine work? It is quite simple. The product consists of materials resistant to the environment of a pool: UV resistance from the sun and resistance to the water treatment of the basin (salts, chlorine, ozone…).

The quality of the product remains constant over time, and maintenance operations are almost non-existent to prevent you from having to plan for regular repairs. It relies on a turbine, with power variable according to your needs and level of sports practice.

The advantage? Outboard counter-current swimming systems can be installed in both in-ground and above-ground pools (except for fiberglass pools, which are not suitable for this type of device). It is simply necessary to add a telescopic foot, stable enough to ensure the safety of the installation.

Furthermore, it should be noted that the installation of a counter-current swimming system with an outboard turbine does not require extensive work. You will only need to plan for the fixing of the device and the installation of the nozzles, which are essential for its proper functioning. In the case of the Model S from Swimeo, 2 to 3 hours of labor are sufficient for installation.

The case of wooden above-ground pools

Do you have a wooden above-ground pool installed in your garden? Good news: you can easily add an above-ground counter-current swimming system. To do this, simply place it across the edge of the pool. It will offer you the same benefits as an in-ground pool.

However, be careful: when the cold arrives, starting in October-November in some regions, make sure to winterize it properly. Frost can damage the components of the system. Fortunately, when the nice days return, a few minutes will be enough to restore it to working order. And enjoy again the sensations offered by such a device, alone, with family, or friends!
